Chapter 1: A Song That Conveys Everything
すべてを乗せた曲 (? (edit))
すべてを乗せた曲 (? (edit))
Toya's Room
Toya
...No. This sound isn't right, either.
Toya
(A song like this couldn't possibly compete with the passion of that night.)
Toya
(I have to go further.)
Toya
(I have to hone it further——to make it hotter.)
Toya
(I have to write a song that can surpass RAD WEEKEND...!)
Flashback
A few months ago
WEEKEND GARAGE
WEEKEND GARAGE
Ken
Even if you're able to gain skill, it'll be tough for you guys if you carry on doing events the way you have been.
Ken
It's difficult to reignite a flame that's been put out once. You won't have many chances.
Ken
So...we'll be splitting up responsibilities.
Akito
Eh?
Ken
It's vital preparation that you'll need to do in order to surpass RAD WEEKEND.
Ken
First off——Akito, you need to light a fire in your audience.
Akito
...In our audience...?
Toya
(...I see. We're supposed to clear obstacles that bar the path to surpassing RAD WEEKEND, one by one.)
Toya
(Lighting a fire in the audience...it's a role that suits Akito perfectly. I'm certain he'll pull it off.)
Ken
Next is——Toya.
Toya
...Yes!
Ken
Your role——is "track maker".
Toya
...Eh?
Ken
You'll need songs to sing when you surpass RAD WEEKEND. I'll have you compose all of them, by yourself.
Toya
...All of our songs, by myself...you mean?
Ken
Yeah, that's right.
Ken
It goes without saying that a good event needs good music. On top of that, you're trying to surpass RAD WEEKEND. You'll need quality that lives up to that.
An
I-It's true that Toya's music is amazing...but isn't it asking too much to make him write it all alone...?
Ken
——Let me explain my thought process of having Toya write everything by himself.
Ken
First, let me tell you a little bit about the music we wrote when we put on RAD WEEKEND.
Ken
The music we played back then was something the three of us composed together. It was music we poured everything we'd ever felt 'til that moment into.
Toya
Everything you'd felt until that moment...
Ken
Yeah. It was the music we were singing for Nagi's final event, after all.
Ken
Everything that we could put into it, we did.
Ken
And because of that, we were able to heat up the crowd as much as we did...to a level we'd never before experienced.
Ken
That's why, if you all intend on surpassing RAD WEEKEND, you'll need to prepare a song that lives up to that.
Ken
To create "a song that you've put your all into".
Toya
...
Ken
No matter how good your performance is, if you can't write a song like that, you'll never be able to surpass that fire. No way in hell.
Toya
(...It's true, I can understand that.)
Toya
(The passion of that day wasn't just from Ken-san and the others' voices. ...It was because of that heart-pounding song that everything lit up. I was able to get a firm grasp of that, even by just watching the footage.)
Toya
(But...)
Toya
...Can I...really do that?
Toya
It's certainly true that we have very powerful feelings.
Toya
Nagi-san, Ken-san, Taiga-san, everybody who's been in town this whole time...we've all found the resolve to carry on this dream and continue pursuing it, with a full understanding of all the feelings behind it.
Toya
The intensity of the feelings that we carry——I'm certain that they wouldn't lose to the feelings of you and everyone else, Ken-san.
Toya
But...if you were to ask me if I could consolidate all of those feelings and turn them into music...
Ken
——I think it's possible, but only because it's you.
Toya
Eh...
Ken
In the past, you let me listen to all of the music you've written up 'til now, and...
Ken
Toya, there's something about your music that's just different. Even without lyrics, there are plenty of things you're able convey through sound alone...that's how I feel.
Ken
This is just a guess, but——
Ken
It's probably because you've been interacting with music in a special way, unique from any other person, since you were a child.
Ken
It's those experiences that connected you to the music you can make now...that's what it looks like to me.
Toya
Ah...
Flashback
Toya's Father
——Don't ever play without thinking.
Toya's Father
You must always consider the composer's perspective, intention, and emotions as you perform.
End flashback
Ken
Of course, that doesn't only go for you, Toya. Each one of you is capable of pouring your feelings into your music.
Ken
But if it was Toya, he'd be able to consider all of your feelings——no matter how incomprehensibly huge or complicated——and the likelihood of him being able to condense all of that into one piece is higher.
Kohane
...It's true, the last time I listened to Aoyagi-kun's music, I was able to feel so many different emotions...
An
You're right. It's kind of a shame that we won't be able to perform any of the music we've written up 'til now——
An
But if it was Toya's music, I'm sure we'd be able to deliver all of our feelings!
Ken
...But there's no changing the fact that what I'm asking of you is unreasonable.
Ken
It'll be a tough task...are you up for it?
Toya
...I am.
Toya
If my composing is what gives us the chance to surpass the music you wrote with the others, Ken-san...then I have no other choice. That's what I believe.
Akito
It looks like it'll be a tough battle for both of us. But——
Akito
I'll leave it to you, Toya!
Kohane
Do your best, Aoyagi-kun!
Toya
Of course!
